Woman loses RM2,120 in bogus book deal

-

LIMBANG: A woman is reported to have lost RM2,120 in a bogus transaction via Facebook.

The victim said she had ordered 16 novels since early last year, banking in RM320 to the account of the alleged seller.

She then made another order of 40 novels, paying RM1,800 for the books online.

However, the seller could not be contacted after that transaction was done in January this year.

“The books were never delivered,” she said.

A police report on the matter has been lodged.

According to Limbang police chief Supt Bukhori Saffai, the case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating and failure in the delivery of property.

Upon conviction, the offender could face a jail term of up to 10 years, with whipping and is also liable to a fine.

Separately, a representative of a secondary school here lodged a police report on a breakin, said to have occurred last Friday.

The break-in was discovered by the school’s staff members around 11.30am, where they reported that several units of laptop computers, gas cylinders, coins and 45 packets of chicken drumsticks – part of the school’s food rations – had gone missing.

Bokhori confirmed having received the report, adding that the estimated loss was RM2,830.

In another case, two men – aged 25 and 38 – were arrested during a recent raid by police here.

It is believed that both are involved in drug abuse.

They later tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.

The case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952.
