Projects in Sibuti will be ready before next general election — MP
MIRI: All mega projects that have been approved by the government, including delayed projects in Sibuti, will be completed before the next general election.
Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang said the projects included the construction of Niah fire station, Bekenu bridge and the upgrading of Sepupok Plan road under the army’s Jiwa Murni programme.
“The completion of the projects will ensure that the opposition will not harp on the issues during campaigning for the general election,” he said when met at his office here yesterday.
He said the mega projects were delayed due to several unforeseen circumstances involving designs and provision.
“However, the government has guaranteed that all approved projects will be completed, as have been promised to the people,” he said.
Elaborating, he said the Niah fire station was now 60 per cent completed. It would be completed by end of this year and would be fully operational by 2018. The Bekenu bridge project would be completed and opened to the public by end of this year.
Another project that is under construction here is Sepupok Plan road costing about RM26 million.
“Although several stretches of the road have been completed, many of them ( stretches) have been damaged due to the thin layer of tar. We have recommended that the contractors re-laminate the road to make the layer thicker and durable.
He added that the stretch of Pan Borneo Highway project would pass through Sibuti, including the stretch from Batu Niah Bridge to the old Lambir road.
“The road will improve the existing land transport network in Sibuti and also boost the local tourism industry.”
He, however, acknowledged that many landowners were complaining of dissatisfaction over the amount of compensation for the acquisition of their land by the government.
“As the people’s BN representative, I want all the issues affecting the people addressed properly and fast so that the opposition will not use them as election issues,” he said.
