RM100,000 target for SMK Agama Miri fundraising run
MIRI: SMK Agama Miri ( SMKAMi) Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) in collaboration with its co- curriculum unit and several other agencies are seeking support from members of the public to help raise funds for various projects by participating in the Back2School Run 2017 event on July 16.
Principal Ahmad Fauzi Yaakob said that the school is looking into upgrading several physical facilities including its educational park, toilets, classrooms, field grandstand as well as financial aid to underprivileged students.
“The upgrading of the school facilities is in line with the Ministry of Education’s aspirations in 21st century education. Our aim is to register over 2,000 runners and raise RM100,000,” he told a press conference here yesterday.
Among those present were Sibuti MP Ahmad Lai Bujang, who is also the SMKAMi PTA patron, PTA chairperson Marini Juraibi and organising committee members of the Back2School Run.
At the press conference, Ahmad Lai announced that he would be contributing RM5,000 for the run. Registration for the inaugural run co- organised with Tourism Malaysia is now open for the 12km Men/ Women and 5 km Boys/ Girls categories which will flag off from the school’s Dewan AlKhawarizmi at 6.30am.
The early bird fee of RM60 per participant is valid until May 1. The normal fee from May 2 to June 6 is RM70.
The organiser also welcomes individuals to participate under the Fundraising category. The category is not for competitors but participants will still have to pay the registration fee.
Those interested to contribute but will not be able to participate on the day itself can sign up for the virtual run, where they can participate at their own time and venue before the day of the race. Virtual runners will not be eligible for the prize money.
Each participant will receive a uniquely designed t- shirt upon signing up and a finisher medal upon completion of the run. Tenpin bowling vouchers will also be given to participants courtesy of Megalane Bowling Centre Miri.
Prizemoneyandothersponsored prizes will be awarded to the top 20 finishers for the Men, Women, Boys and Girls categories.
Sponsors for the run include The Haven Resort Hotel Ipoh, Coral Beach Resort Pangkor, The Cabin Langkawi, Rizqun International Hotel Brunei and Mface.
