Siblings arrested in connection with housebreaking
MIRI: Criminal Investigation Department (CID) personnel arrested two siblings on Tuesday for their alleged involvement in a housebreaking case at Pujut 3B on Sunday.
The arrests came 22 hours after the case was reported to the police on Monday at around 8.50pm.
The siblings, aged 34 and 36, were arrested at a house in Kampung Lereng Bukit around 6.20pm.
When contacted yesterday, Miri deputy police chief Supt Stanley Jonathan Ringgit confirmed the case. Police also seized a Honda Civic from the house compound, which is believed to have been stolen. A file containing passports and various documents was found in the car.
The suspects were brought to Miri Central Police Station to assist with the investigation.
Both siblings have past criminal records. It is learnt that three other suspects are still at large.
Police are investigating the case under Section 457 of the Penal Code for housebreaking and Section 379A for car theft.
Earlier around 2.40pm, the CID team found a Toyota Camry at Mile 1 Kuala Baram road, which is believed to have been reported stolen by the homeowner.
On Monday around 7.20pm, a family in Pujut 3B discovered they suffered losses of some RM400,000 as their house had been broken into while they were on a short trip to their village in Niah. The stolen items included a Toyota Camry and a Honda Civic, jewellery, watches and notebook computers.
