Accusations by DAP reps baseless — Tiong
I have been in politics for quite some time. I have seen the state government under Adenan and Abang Johari working with the people in both their short and long term plans. The opposition should be able to analyse and see that.
SIBU: Bintulu MP Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing yesterday hit out at DAP Padungan assemblyman Wong King Wei and Pending assemblywoman Violet Yong for their comments on the 100 days of Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg in office.
In a press statement, he said their comments were baseless, adding they should check on the facts before making the allegations against the chief minister.
He said when the late Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Adenan Satem was chief minister, many accomplishments had been achieved, including Chinese education development, abolition of tolls, illegal logging, restriction of lands for oil palm plantation, lowering of ferry fare and others.
He said after Abang Johari took over the helm, contributions to the development of Sarawak and services to the people were continued.
“I have been in politics for quite some time. I have seen the state government under Adenan and Abang Johari working with the people in both their short and long term plans. The opposition should be able to analyse and see that.”
He said Abang Johari was continuing the policies of Adenan to benefit the state and the people beyond the 100 days he was in office.
He lambasted the opposition for
Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing, Bintulu MP
labelling such hard work of the state’s leader as “giving out of goodies”.
He argued that if the government was just putting on a show and not working for the people, the people would not have benefited and the government would have no income if it did not create and expand economic opportunities.
As an example, he said Abang Johari had initiated the methanol and methanol derivatives project to transform the state’s economy and to create more job opportunities for the people.
The government was also finding ways to increase the state’s income, he added.
Telling the opposition not to oppose just for the sake of opposing, he said the takingover of Bakun Dam from the federal government would reap benefits for the state and the people, especially businessmen in Bintulu.
With the building of Jepak township and the government departments moving into the new township, Bintulu would further be transformed into a bigger and prosperous town.
In addition, the building of a bridge costing RM250 million there would reduce the distance between Bintulu and Jepak to only a 10-minute drive from 45 minutes currently.
“Aren’t these policies benefitting the people?”
Tiong also touched on the Sebauh River bridge costing RM150 million that would benefit the townsfolk and villagers on the opposite bank.
“In just 100 days in office, Abang Johari has brought development of RM400 million to Bintulu. Is this what that opposition claimed as no change in Sarawak?”
