Satok Fest kicks off 10th edition today

-

KUCHING: Entering its 10th anniversary, this year’s Satok Fest which will be held from today until April 30 at Kuching Waterfront, promises more products and entertainment for the public to look forward to.

Since it was first introduced, Satok Fest has proven to be a catalyst for growing local small and medium enterprises (SMEs).

Over the years, the number of operators participating in the festival has increased and this led to the birth of Satok Uptown@ Kuching Civic Centre, the first uptown concept night market in Sarawak in 2015.

Besides being a promising platform for SMEs, Satok Fest has branded itself as a tourist attraction in Kuching.

Upholding the concept of culture and heritage, various performances have been lined up such as a ‘silat’ competition, ‘Hadrah’ competition, ‘Gendang Melayu Sarawak’ performance, ‘Satok Idol’ contest and many more.

For the first time, to mark its 10th year, Satok Fest 2017 will feature the Satok Youth Jazz Nite, billed as the first ever jazz event in Sarawak where performers are strictly youths.

At least six local jazz bands are expected to show off their talent on stage.

Satok Fest hopes to be recognised globally and not just as a local event in Sarawak.

To realise this dream, the organising committee has brought Satok Fest across the South China Sea and so far has held Satok Fest in Malacca in 2013 as well as in Kuala Lumpur in 2015.
