Registration for Radio Amateur Examination ends May 4

-

MIRI: Amateur radio operators and interested members of the public are encouraged to sit for the Radio Amateur Examination ( RAE) for Class B - 9W prefix scheduled for May 25 at 2pm.

Miri Amateur Radio Club ( MARC) chairman Loh Kiun Shin said registration for the exam will close on May 4.

Registration and examination information may be obtained from https://sems.skmm.gov.my. The registration fee is RM50.

“So far in Miri, we have 30 people registered for the exam and as such, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission ( MCMC) could possibly open an examination centre in Miri as the minimum number is 20 pax.

“Thus, interested members of the public in Miri should take advantage of the situation, to save on the cost of sitting for the examination if held elsewhere,” he said.

MARC currently has registered members.

Amateur radio exists in nearly every country and utilises the same frequencies as in Malaysia. In Malaysia, amateur radio services are regulated by MCMC

Amateurs are required to pass an examination to demonstrate technical knowledge, operating competence and awareness of legal and regulatory requirements in order to avoid interference with other amateurs and other radio services.

Loh added that the RAE (Class B - 9W prefix) is one of two exams available while the other is the CW Test - Morse Code Test (Class A - 9M prefix).

The RAE and CW Test are scheduled twice per year. However MCMC also conducts a computerised test with a minimum of 20 pax per centre on a monthly basis. 60
