Week-old infant abandoned in front of house in Kubang Semang
BUKIT MERTAJAM: A male infant, beleived to be about week old, was abandoned in front of a woman’s house in Mengkuang Semarak, Kubang Semang, here yesterday.
Seberang Perai Tengah ( SPT) district police chief, ACP Nik Ros Azhan Nik Abdul Hamid said the infant, who was wrapped in a batik cloth, was discovered by a 76-year- old woman when opening her house door after hearing someone crying at 7.45am.
He said the infant, who was abandoned without any self identification, was sent to Hospital Seberang Jaya ( HSJ) for health examination and would be taken to the Social Welfare Department (JKM) for further action.
Further investigation was still being carried out including tracking down the people who had left the baby boy in front of the senior citizen’s house and anyone with any information on the incident were urged to contact the nearest police station, he said here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Halijah Ariffin said the infant wrapped in a batik cloth was left on the floor under a chair in front of her house.
“At that time, I was watching television and clearly heard the sound of a baby crying.
“Then, I immediately opened the door to find out and when I saw the infant covered in the batik cloth, I immediately called my next- door neighbour.
“At first, I was scared but I took pity on the crying child and carried him,” she said. — Bernama
