Sarawak lawn bowl quartet impress in Terengganu
KUCHING: Back- up players from the Sukma squad were instrumental in helping Sarawak emerged the runners- up in the Terengganu International Open Fours Lawn Bowls Championship at the lawn bowls green of the Terengganu Sports Complex from Apr 18-23.
The quartet of Sh Syaza Nisrina Mumtaz, Mohd Amirul Hafizi Jafar, Nur Fitrah Rosmadi and Abdul Rahman Amnuddin lost narrowly 10-12 to Mohd Ikmal Imran Mohd Rosli, Muhd Alif Saufi Shaifudin, Aqmal Bdriz Mustakim and Shafiqa Haidar Afif Abdul Rahman of UiTM in the final.
The victory handed UiTM a cash prize of RM10,000 while Sarawak four pocketed RM5,000.
In third place were Express while the fourth to eighth positions went to MPK, UiTM B, UMT D, Labuan A and LTRSD.
The f ive- day tournament attracted 60 teams including Hong Kong.
“Congratulations to the Sarawak team who have succeeded to finish second at the international competition last week.
“I would also like to thank the four Sukma back up players for bringing honour to the state,”said Sarawak Lawn Bowls Association president Awang Mahyan Awang Mohamad.
He was very impressed with state players who displayed no fear or nervousness facing more experienced players including those from outside Malaysia.
According to Mahyan, the championship was a good exposure for those preparing for Sukma XIX in Perak next year.
