-

KUALA LUMPUR: The EUMalaysia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EUMCCI) today announced the appointment of Tan Sri Rebecca Fatima Sta Maria as its new chairperson.

Rebecca succeeds Roberto Benetello who was recently appointed the chamber’s first Chief Executive Officer, a statement from EUMCCI said YESTERday.

The new chairperson brings comprehensive experience in international trade and industrial policy from her previous six-year tenure as Secretary-General of the Ministry of International Trade and Industry.

She assumed several key roles in ASEAN economic integration and was currently a Senior Policy Fellow for the Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia.

Given her experience in trade and investment, Rebecca would be a valuable advantage for the chamber especially with its mediatory functions between the EU business community and Malaysian policy makers, the statement added.

In her new role, Rebecca would continue to work with the government on making it easier to do business in Malaysia.

This is part of the chamber’s fresh direction for emphasising its advocacy role.

“I feel very privileged to take on this role at such a propitious time in the development of Malaysia’s relations with the EU.

“I strongly endorse the chamber’s vision to be the advocacy platform for its members, other EU bilateral c chambers and the EU business community to facilitate communications of business critical issues with local authorities & stakeholders,” Rebecca was quoted as saying in the statement.

Meanwhile, EUMCCI would hold its annual EU- Malaysia Trade and Investment Forum tomorrow.

The forum aimed to provide a platform for the European business community in Malaysia to present and discuss their challenges when doing business in Malaysia.

In support of the forum, the ‘EU-Malaysia Trade Issues and Recommendations’ publication would also be presented to the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. — Bernama
