Fajar donates RM10,000 to Malaysian Care
MIRI: Fajar International College recently donated RM10,000 to the Malaysian Christian Association for Relief ( Malaysian Care).
T he non- government a l organisation serves the poor and needy through community development projects in Ulu Baram.
Fajar International College CEO Dr Peter Tham presented the donation to Malaysian Care Miri community staff member Joelin Lim.
Lim said Malaysian Care has explored and identified Penan and Kenyah villages in Ulu Baram that are in need of economic, social and education empowerment projects.
She said a project plan has been drafted and the donation would go towards funding rural development work in these areas.
According to a Malaysian Care study, economic empowerment efforts that are income generating such as integrated farming can be applied in these rural villages.
Malaysian Care also looks after the needs of those involved in drugs and substance abuse, provides holistic integrated community development services, and advocates for the poor and needy.
Mea nwhi le, T ham a l so announced that the college has set up scholarships for deserving Penan students, and hopes to work together with relevant organisations to help raise the community’s standard of education.
