Man found dead near Sg Apong market

-

KUCHING: The body of a 60-yearold man was found in a boat-shaped hut at Sungai Apong Market here yesterday.

Kuching police chief ACP Abang Ahmad Abang Julai confirmed the case and said the police had classified the case as sudden death. The body will be sent for a post mortem to determine the cause of death.

The senior citizen, identified as Bong, is said to have made the hut his home, while making a living by selling vegetables or repairing boats owned by the villagers during the day.

A man who was only identified as Voon, who knew the deceased, said he went to inspect the hut at around 10am as Bong did not open his stall.

He saw the elderly man lying down and assumed then that he was still sleeping.

A source said that around 1pm, Voon felt suspicious as Bong had yet to appear at the market like usual. Voon then went to the hut and was shocked to see Bong’s body was stiff after which, he contacted both the hospital and police.

Bong was pronounced dead by paramedics who were despatched to the scene.

Police personnel from the nearby police station were also present at the scene to conduct investigations while waiting for the deceased’s family members to arrive.

“The deceased’s sister who appeared at the scene when met said all this while, he had never complained about feeling ill to his family,” the source said.
