Wong: Abg Jo bringing greater devt to S’wak
KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg has been described as a man of vision, determination and political prowess who has a big heart for Sarawak and her people.
Second Finance Minister Dato Sri Wong Soon Koh said since his appointment as chief minister, Abang Johari has been determined to bring in development to the state.
“In fact, he wanted to leap frog into a new era of greater economic development and greater progress for our state. He is no longer satisfied with the traditional way of doing things.
“He talked about Internet highway, digital economy, ecommerce, international trade and investment, hoping to bring in greater development. So you can see, he is very innovative and creative,” he said at UPP Parents’ Day Celebration dinner which was held at KTS Garden here on Monday.
The UPP president related to those present that Abang Johari had informed his cabinet that he would like to see his mission and vision come to fruition within the next one to three years.
“He would like to see results not in ten years but immediate results in one to three years so all of us have to work hard particularly ( UPP deputy president) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil and myself.
“We really have to work with total involvement, dedication and full commitment in order not to disappoint our chief minister who has put so much trust and confidence in us,” he expressed.
Wong, who was recently appointed as International Trade and E- Commerce Minister in the cabinet reshuffle last Saturday, also took the opportunity to express his gratitude to Abang Johari.
He talked about Internet highway, digital economy, e-commerce, international trade and investment, hoping to bring in greater development. So you can see, he is very innovative and creative.
“I must take this opportunity once again and on behalf of UPP to thank the chief minister for giving us the opportunity to serve the people,” he said.
Apart from Wong, Dr Jerip was also transferred to a new portfolio as Assistant Minister of Transportation.
On the UPP Parents’ Day Celebration, Wong said the event was organised to create awareness among the people to respect the elderly, especially parents.
“It is our sacred responsibility that we should take care of our own parents and more elderly people. Give them the due respect not only in terms of material benefits but also spiritual support. We will be respected later on,” he stressed.
He also noted that while ‘kinship love’ and ‘ friendship love’ came to people naturally, one must also practise ‘universal love’.
“It is most difficult to show respect and love to those whom you don’t know. In ‘ universal love’, we respect somebody whom we don’t know like all our guests here tonight ( Monday) from the charitable homes and so on.
“This is the sort of love that we should treasure,” he said.
Organised by UPP Batu Lintang Branch, the celebration also saw Wong presenting ‘ang pow’ and some goodies to residents of Hun Nam Siang Tng, Rumah Seri Kenangan, The Green Ribbon Association Kuching and Home of Peace.
Also present were Dr Jerip, UPP secretary general George Lo, vice-president and youth chief Dr Johnical Rayong Ngipa and advisor Dr Chou Chii Ming.
