NGO sets RM1 mln fundraising target for hospice centre
SIBU: Kuching Life Care Society aims to raise RM1 million this year for the construction of a hospice/palliative centre in Batu Kawa, Kuching.
It will kick-start its i-shave event on July 2 at Star Mega Mall here.
The society’s treasurer Hung Sung Huo told a press conference yesterday the proposed 3storey centre at Lane 15 Taman Desa Wira, Batu Kawa Road, will need about RM6 million to build.
“When completed, the centre can accommodate 55 patients,” Hung, who is also the society’s founder, said.
He added: “We started to raise funds in 2011, and have already raised about RM4 million.
“Meaning, we are still short of about RM2 million. This year, we plan to raise about RM1 million from our i-shave programme.”
The i- shave programme began in 2013.
“For this year, the programme will take off on July 2 at Star Mega Mall in Sibu from 10am until 2pm. We will have similar programmes this year in Kuching, Bintulu and Miri,” he pointed out.
Hung also disclosed that Daesim managing director Datuk Lau Ngie Hua has chipped in RM100,000 for the Sibu leg of the programme.
