Call on all to understand, practise every principle under Rukun Negara
MARUDI: Every Malaysian must not only know how to recite the ‘ Rukun Negara’ ( National Ideology) and memorise them, but they must also know the significance of each of the five principles.
According to Marudi District state administrative officer (SAO) Reagan Edwin, the principles signify the responsibilities of every citizen to the country.
“So being Malaysians, I call upon each and every one of us to never forget the ‘ Rukun Negera’, with its principles of ‘Believe in God’; ‘Loyalty to the King and Nation’; ‘Supremacy of the Constitution’; ‘Sovereignty of the Law’; and ‘Courtesy and Morality’.
“The onus falls upon us to support the policies and programmes implemented by the government, especially those in the civil service,” he spoke at the closing of a seminar on patriotism at the Baram Civic Centre here yesterday, run by the state National Civics Bureau ( Biro Tatanegara) and Marudi Information Department.
The programme involved 109 local staff members of various state and federal government departments and agencies. The facilitator was Awang Amli Awang Mohammad of Biro Tatanegara Sarawak.
Reagan represented Baram MP Anyi Ngau to declare the closing of the one-day programme.
Adding on, Reagan also highlighted this district as a vibrant environment to nurture and promote the spirit of unity and patriotism.
“In Baram alone, we have some 22 different ethnic groups living together, sitting and dining together at one table. Unity and cooperation have always existed here,” he said.
The SAO also expressed his appreciation to the participants who were willing to spare some time to attend the programme.
“I learn that many of you have come to this seminar voluntarily, and I commend you on that. This is a great example shown by the local civil servants. I know that all of you are busy with your jobs, but you are attending this programme to refresh your minds and enhyance your knowledge on the topics covered.”
