-

KUCHING: Representatives of government departments and agencies came together at the recent ‘Safety and Health Week 2017’ Merdeka Palace Hotel and Suites ( MPHS) here to present awareness talks on health and safety at the workplace.

The programme, which ran from April 25 to 28, was facilitated by officers from the Department of Occupational Safety and Health ( DOSH), Department of Chemistry, Department of Environment, Fire and Rescue Department, Kuching High Court, National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK) and GiatMara Santubong.

“The objective of this programme is to create the awareness among our staff members of the health and safety aspects in the workplace, so that they would later be able to manage their working lives well – physically and emotional,” said MPHS general manager Mark Ferguson in a press statement issued yesterday.

Additionally, the hotel also held internal competitions for employees such as the ‘ Tanggathon’, the ‘ Kawad Hose’ and logo- design challenge.

“We even ran a ‘ Piloxing’ session, as one of the ways for them (staff members) to lead healthier lives through exercise,” he said, adding that MPHS takes health and safety issues very seriously and would like to inspire others to do the same.

“Therefore, apart from the employees of the hotel, we also decided to invite representatives from other hotels, colleges and government agencies to attend the talks this time around. This is our second year holding such event at MPHS.”

Meanwhile, Malaysian Association of Hotels ( MAH) Sarawak Chapter president Ibrahim Nordin, who was present at the closing ceremony, commended the management and staff members of MPHS for such a successful organisation of the awareness programme.
