TAIPING: Although she has not been able to obtain a MyKad after thrice applying for it, 100year- old Tan Kim Cheng was still delighted to get a permanent resident ( MyPR) card, yesterday.

The mother of 10 received the MyPR card from National Registration Department directorgeneral Datuk Mohd Yazid Ramli at her house in Taman Pertama, Aulong, here.

The senior citizen who hailed from Guangzhou, China, was born on March 10, 1917 and migrated to then Malaya with her husband in 1940.

One of her children, Bay Hai Chan, 64, said his mother had applied three times to obtain a MyKad but failed and was only given a temporary identity card.

“I am still happy that she has received a MyPR card, and thanks to the NRD,” he said, adding that the secret to his mother’s good health was a diet of mainly porridge and warm water.

Mohd Yazid, meanwhile, said the NRD was processing Tan’s application for a MyKad before forwarding it to the Home Ministry for approval.

“We have no problems with it, provided it is complete with the factors for consideration as the government would be the one approving the application.

“The conditions set for those born outside the country and applying for a permanent resident card are that they must be able to speak Bahasa Malaysia, of good conduct and must submit complete documents as stipulated under Article 19 of the Federal Constitution,” he told reporters. — Bernama
