Voters in Miri feel Dr Ting reaps what he sowed

-

MIRI: Voters here generally feel that Pujut assemblyman Dr Ting Tiong Choon who was disqualified as a member of the State Legislative Assembly yesterday has to bear the consequence of standing for election despite having dual citizenship.

A voter who only wanted to be identified as Koo said Dr Ting should have cleared the issue before the state election.

“I am sure many shared similar feeling as mine. Though he felt his disqualification was unfair and unjust, it was a result he had brought upon himself for concealing his citizenship from the voters.”

Another voter, Kelvin Tan said Dr Ting should present the evidence and defend himself in court if he felt he was wrongfully disqualified by Wong Soon Koh’s ministerial motion.

“I do not understand how he was able to get through the Election Commission ( EC) if he had dual citizenship. Is it because EC overlooked on this issue? Whatever it is, I am truly disappointed with Dr Ting as well as the EC for such as huge hiccup. It is a shame that such thing happens here,” Tan said.

Tan added that DAP Sarawak should have scrutinised its candidates thoroughly to avoid such an embarrassment.

S. A Wong, who admitted voting for Dr Ting in the state election last year, said if the Pujut assemblyman could not disprove Wong’s accusations DAP will suffer a blow to its credibility.

DAP will have to work hard to find a way to regain the people’s confidence after this fiasco, he added.
