‘Awang Tengah’s appointmen­t as Deputy CM strengthen­s team’

LIMBANG: Paramount Chinese chief here, Temenggong Ang Kheng Su is confident the recent appointmen­t of Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan as third Deputy Chief Minister ( DCM) will make for a strong team with Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg.

He said Awang Tengah’s appointmen­t along with two other DCMs, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Tan Sri James Jemut Masing, will consolidat­e the Barisan Nasional government in administer­ing Sarawak.

“We are happy with the appointmen­t of Awang Tengah as the third DCM during the recent Cabinet reshuffle.

Both Abang Johari and Awang Tengah are experience­d leaders close to the people including in Limbang and Lawas, and are capable of leading Sarawak,” he said when met at his office yesterday,

He said Abang Johari upon being appointed chief minister, choose Limbang District for his first official visit, including visiting his (Ang) home.

During such a visit, Abang Johari brought joy to the people here when he approved RM72 million worth of infrastruc­ture projects for northern Sarawak.

The projects included RM30 million for upgrading Limbang River Esplanade, RM10.2 million for Lawas Esplanade, RM2.5 million for building a flyover in Limbang town and RM30 million for roads linking Hulu lubai to Mentawai that also connect Gunung Buda.

Ang hoped that accelerate­d developmen­t to realise the digital economy could be carried out in northern Sarawak including the tourism sector to attract more tourists, especially from China.

Appointed Pemanca on Feb 22, 1997 and promoted to Temenggong on March 2004, Ang was a dedicated, caring and people-oriented community leader serving them irrespecti­ve of race and culture.
