DAP’s Edward ready for rematch with Riot in Serian in GE14
KUCHING: DAP Serian branch chairman Edward Andrew Luwak is ready for a re-match with Serian incumbent MP Datuk Seri Richard Riot Jaem if given the chance by the party’s leadership to contest in the coming general election (GE14).
This is in response to news report that Riot was more confident of a bigger majority win and that he was battle-ready.
“Well, DAP Serian is battleready too. We are ready logistically, physically, spiritually, morally and mentally. We hope for the best and we are prepared for the worst.
“There is always a part of my mind that is preparing for the worst and another part of my mind that believes if I prepare enough for it, the worst wouldn’t happen,” said Edward.
In the GE13 in 2013, Riot successfully defended Serian for the sixth consecutive term by a 13,151-vote majority in a threecornered fight which also featured Edward.
He a lso rubbished Riot ’ s statement that it would be a sure win for Riot in Serian and that whoever stood against him would lose his deposit.
“If you are to win, do not be angry and do not victimise those who did not support you. If you are elected, you represent all those in the constituency. An elected representative should serve everyone, irrespective of race, gender, colour, religion or political belief.
“DAP Serian will work hard to avoid losing the deposit and work harder to win the seat. Nothing is impossible and the voters are the ones who will decide. To my team and supporters, I told them it was not going to be easy but it’s going to be worth it,” he said.
He called on Riot to hold an open forum moderated by a neutral personality in an indoor or outdoor venue with a limited number of invitees from each side.
The subject is to focus on the socio- economic wellbeing of the people of Serian and one’s vision for Serian’s development in the next five years.
“It has to be relevant to the role of a parliamentarian, meaning that it should cover plans and services funded and implemented by the Federal Government,” he said.
