Blueprint and logo to enhance school performance

SARIKEI: The district Education Office is embarking on a 2015-2019 Blueprint and adopting ‘Sarikei No.1’ as its slogan to enhance the performance of schools in the district.

District Education officer Radin Fozi Radin Abdul Rahim said they had set a target to put at least 60 per cent or not less than 29 of 48 schools in the district in high performance or Band 1 and Band 2 category by 2019.

By the end of the five-year blueprint, they hope to see no low performing school (in Band 5), Fozi said during the Sarikei District Education Office excellence service award cum ceremony to launch the ‘ Sarikei No.1’ logo at SMK St Anthony’s Hall here yesterday.

He was confident of achieving the target as he believed the district is on track.

Since last year, about 95 per cent of schools in the district have made their way into the excellent category list, with none in the satisfactory performance list unlike before.

He said in 2014, there were only six schools in the excellent category but by last year, the number had increased to 19.

Going by public examination results, the district ranked sixth best in state in 2013; fourth best in 2014 and third best last year.

In PT3, the district maintained its top ranking in the state with district average grade ( GPD) of 3.68 in 2014; GPD 3.10 in 2015 and GPD 3.04 last year.

In the SPM, the district emerged the best in the country with GPD 4.09 in 2014; and best in Sarawak in 2015 with GPD 4.34.

Fozi attributed the impressive results to the commitment and dedication by everyone in the education fraternity, especially teachers in imparting knowledge and values to students.

He said most of the local teachers and other education staff scored high marks, but due to a quota system of eight per cent, only 111 were picked to receive 2016 excellent service awards.

The awards were presented by state Education director Rakayah Madon.
