MIMOS to deliver technology monetisation via home-grown technology
KUALA LUMPUR: MIMOS Bhd will continue to deliver technology monetisation through homegrown technology and position itself as a key competitive player in addressing the 4.0 Industrial Revolution.
Its president/ chief executive officer, Datuk Abdul Wahab Abdullah said in its effort to provide the competitive edge to the local industry (from startups to growing companies), MIMOS noted that the merging technology solutions that would be the potential game changers this year were the Blockchain and Financial Technologies (fintech), Internet of Things ( IoT), and healthcare sectors.
“We will continue to partner with local information and communications technology ( ICT) companies and create new opportunities through the development of innovative solutions and services by positioning our technology in the fintech market, driving the IoT technology platform as the new source of growth and build national technology competitive edge through Internet Protocol ( IP) and research excellence.
“We expect to pursue at least three strategic alliances on smart start-ups or joint-venture companies to support the Internet economy this year,” he told Bernama.
On Blockchain, the world’s leading software platform for digital assets, Abdul Wahab said that MIMOS was also currently working on building the International Organisation for Standardisation ( ISO).
On stakeholder fulfilment, he said MIMOS targeted to create the 4.0 Industrial Revolution demand through market funnel creation of RM1 billion this year, while in terms of assisting the industry through monetisation of homegrown technology, the target was set at RM120 million.
“We are also targeting to realise RM3 million in royalty through technology commercialisation,” he said.
In preparing Malaysian companies to become successful technopreneurs, MIMOS has established its Technology Recipients ( TRs) Programme, where TRs, who received MIMOS’ technology platform, would be able to further enhance their activities into products and services.
The programme is open throughout the year to the local ICT industry or small and medium enterprise (SME).
From 2007 until 2016, Abdul Wahab said there were 96 TRs and MIMOS was targeting to add seven more TRs this year.
Last year, he said MIMOS achieved its group key performance index ( KPI) score of 3.92 out of 4.00 with technology monetisation value of RM152 million, cumulatively since 2011, despite the tough and challenging fiscal year.
A total of 157 Intellectual Properties ( IPs) have been filed, of which 78 IPs had been commercialised through products and solutions in 2016, while cumulatively from 2004 until 2016, the total IPs filed were 1,806, of which 440 had been commercialised.
“As at Dec 31, 2016, there were 1,119 patents filed with the Intellectual Property Corporation of Malaysia ( MyIPO) since 2004 and 794 patents had been filed under the Patent Cooperation Treaty, the World Intellectual Property Organisation ( WIPO).
MIMOS is the country’s forefront technology provider in ICT, industrial electronics technology and nano-semiconductor technology which is under the purview the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation ( MOSTI).
