Sarawak trio to represent Malaysia

KUCHING: Three bodybuilde­rs from Sarawak - Buda Ancha, Dr Malvern Abdullah and Awang Mohd Azizul Ghani - will be representi­ng Malaysia at the 51st Asian Bodybuildi­ng Championsh­ip in South Korea in August and the 9th World Bodybui lding Championsh­ip in Mongolia in November.

The trio will be joined for both championsh­ips by Mohd Syahrul Azman Mahen Abdullah of Kuala Lumpur.

Buda will be defending his Masters and Lightweigh­t titles in the Asian meet while Malvern will be competing in the bantamweig­ht and Azizul in the welterweig­ht categories.

“We are very proud of them because they are not only representi­ng Malaysia but also flying the Sarawak flag at the world stage,” said Assistant Minister of Youth and Sports Snowdan Lawan.

“We expect them to win and not to lose. They are the defending champions and of course they already have the quality and we expect to them to achieve more than that, either defend their titles and some others to achieve the same status in the future,” he said at the presentati­on of state colours to the state bodybuilde­rs bound for the Mr Malaysia, Asian and World Bodybuildi­ng Championsh­ips at Stadium Sarawak, Petra Jaya yesterday.

Also present were Sarawak Bodybui lding Associat ion president Dato Wee Hong Seng, secretary Andy Ismai l, and Sarawak Sports Corporatio­n chief executive officer cum Sarawak State Sports Council director Dr Ong Kong Swee.

As a recognit ion of their achievemen­ts and to motivate them to do well in internatio­nal championsh­ips, Snowdan said the State government through the Sarawak State Sports Council will be giving an incentive of RM3,000 each to Buda, Malvern and Azizul and RM3,000 to the Sarawak Bodybuildi­ng Associatio­n.

Apart from that, the state’s U21 team will be given incentives in the form of sponsored sports attires.
