-

KUCHING: Two people were injured while another escaped unhurt following a two- car collision at Jalan Batu Kitang on Saturday.

According to a Fire and Rescue Department ( Bomba) spokesperson, the incident happened around 7am and involved two compact cars.

A man and a woman travelling in one of the vehicles were helped out of their badly-wrecked car by members of the public following the collision.

The two victims– said to be making their way to Bau prior to the incident – were handed over to a Bomba Emergency Medical Rescue Services ( EMRS) team and brought to Sarawak General Hospital for treatment.

In an unrelated case, swift action by members of public saw a fire, which broke out in a kitchen on the ground floor of a commercial centre here, being put out yesterday morning.

A Bomba spokesperson disclosed that a combination of the building’s sprinkler system and members of the public utilising fire extinguishers saw the flames being doused prior to the arrival of firemen.

Even though the fire had been put out, Bomba personnel remained at the premises to ensure there was no possibility of a recurrence.

No injuries were reported during the incident, with the fire estimated to have damaged 70 per cent of the kitchen.
