Community raises money for victims of Long Seridan fire

-

MIRI: As a gesture of care and support towards Long Seridan fire victims, the Long Bedian community passed the hat around and managed to collect RM2,147 during their annual family day.

The collection was handed over to Telang Usan assemblyman Dennis Ngau, who suggested the donation to give moral support to the fire victims who lost almost everything.

Dennis was the guest-of-honour at the gathering attended by 581 Long Bedian folks living in Miri City.

“It is a tragic incident and even thinking of it throws an ice- cold feeling down our spine and only God knows how the victims feel,”

he added.

He called on the people to come forward with any form of assistance to lighten the burden of the fire victims,

“A home built over the decades to be lost in a fire in just half-anhour makes one feel helpless and hopeless.

“And this could happen to anyone of us living in a longhouse in the interior. I urge Telang Usan folks to enhance the spirit of helping each other as our way of life,”

Meanwhile, Dennis disclosed the idea of forming the Telang Usan Welfare Foundation ( YKTU) was partly to assist during disasters like fire.

“The foundation will raise funds through many ways and means which will be given out in times of need. I truly hope this foundation will materialise soon.”
