Healthy living programme draws all races in Batu Kawa

KUCHING: A holistic event to create awareness of and educate the younger generation on healthy living was held at Dewan Perpaduan RPR Batu Kawa here yesterday.

The one- day ‘ Healthy Mind Programme’ included talks on health, drug abuse as well as fun activities such as a colouring competitio­n and a futsal tournament. It drew hundreds of participan­ts from among residents in the area.

“It is important to live a healthy lifestyle by eating the right proportion and control our sugar intake,” said political secretary to chief minister Tan Kai who represente­d Batu Kawah assemblyma­n Datuk Dr Sim Kui Hian at the launch of the programme.

He also commended the residents udergoing the free medical checkup which was provided by the Batu Kawa Clinic.

According to him, it is fortunate for Malaysians to be receiving free medical check-ups during most community- based programmes.

“There is no other country in the world that provides free medical check-ups and education except Malaysia,” said Tan.

The programme was jointly run by the RPR Batu Kawa Developmen­t and Security Committee (JKKK) together with the RPR Batu Kawa Recreation Club.

Also speaking was the RPR Batu Kawa JKKK chairman Ismail Ibrahim who said the programme managed to attract people from different background in the area to mingle and socialise.

“I hope most of you especially the younger ones have learned how to live a healthy lifestyle,” said Ibrahim, who earlier brought Tan to visit some of the stalls that were selling food and various clothing.
