MIRI: The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) continues to provide clean water supply to several locations that were affected by the collapse of a stretch of the Miri-Bintulu road at KM25 near Bukit Song here on Thursday.

The worst affected area is Bekenu, where several schools, longhouses, individual homes, shops, church and many more are without water supplies, said a spokesperson from the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) when met during an inspection of the road condition on Friday.

Following that, Bomba had initiated the Ops Bekalan Air mission on Friday. Their engineers had travelled to several affected areas providing them with clean water including Kampung Angus, Kampung Masjid Tiris, Bekenu town, Kampung Keluru Tengah, Kampung Keluru Jaya, Kampung Sepurau, Surau Jengalas and many more.

They had also managed to continue their mission to Rumah Panjang Entulang using a water tanker. The 239-door longhouse had successfully received continuous supply of clean water as a result of the noble initiative.

Bomba had dedicated their hard work to ensure local residents continuously receive clean water.

A spokesperson from the department commended the affected residents for their patience while waiting for the clean water supply.

“Although it takes quite a lot of time for us to reach certain places and the condition of the road were not that suitable for us to get our vehicles pass through, we have managed to perform our duties well until late at night.

“We will continue our mission to send clean water to the community in affected areas for the betterment of the local community,” he said, adding that they also received help from the Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB). Some of the local communities also organised activities for Bomba personnel in appreciation of their hard work and services.
