Entrepreneurs urged to fully utilise Borneo 744
KUCHING: Entrepreneurs are urged to fully utilise Borneo 744, Malaysia’s first Blue Ocean Entrepreneurs Township (BOET).
Deputy State Secretary Datu Jaul Samion said this during the soft launching of Borneo 744 in Bintawa here, Friday.
“We encourage all Sarawakians, with their talents and skills, to come and collaborate to make new ideas. Only by fully utilising new ideas and by polishing it do we make Blue Oceans, traversing new market spaces so we don’t have to stick by tradition and run business the old-fashioned way,” he said.
He added that Borneo 744 is the place to be - to build their own start-up, social enterprise, or even to experiment on arts and creative endeavour.
“What we want to do in Borneo 744 is to strengthen and further complement the national entrepreneurship ecosystem.
“Borneo 744 will be beneficial for young entrepreneurs who want to scale greater heights.”
Jaul said the effort was in line with the state government’s focus on developing a digital economy to create more jobs.
The soft launching ceremony was officiated by Treasury secretary-general Tan Sri Mohd Irwan Serigar Abdullah.
He said he was looking forward to seeing Borneo 744 a vibrant place filled with youngsters.
“We will have shoplots for entrepreneurs to rent at minimal charges. Youths are welcome to do sports and leisure activities here too.”
Mohd Irwan also said he was looking to have a BOET in Sabah too.
“Borneo 744 is made possible with the help of CMS which allows us to use the place for free for the next 15 years. I welcome collaboration from the private sector with us in Sabah as well.”
The event also saw the launching of Coding@ Schools 2017, an introductory programme for primary school children to learn basic coding practically.
This year, the programme hopes to train 6,000 students in the country.
Coding@Schools 2017 is designed by Finance Minister’s National Strategy Unit and Ministry of Education together with the support of State Education Department.
The extensive Borneo 744 district with 120,000 sq feet built-up area 11km from Kuching city centre was identified by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak last year as the future home of the country’s first BOET.
Borneo 744, dubbed the ‘Entrepreneurs and Arts District, Sarawak’, is a 100 per cent not-for-profit nongovernmental organisation (NGO) operated by a CLBG (company limited by guarantee) which is a Yayasan-type entity.
