Feature-filled BMW K 1600 GT boasts style and comfort

- May 21, 2017

KUCHING: Regas Premium Auto introduced the new BMW K 1600 GT high-end touring motorcycle yesterday, combining both luxury and power in one stylish package.

According to the dealer, the motorcycle was created from the ground up as the ultimate tourer as the model continues the BMW Motorrad DNA of ‘Making Life a Ride’.

It features optimised ergonomics for the footrests, seating areas, and handlebar positions – all of which engender a more active seating position whilst retaining unmatched comfort.

A press conference was held by the dealer at their showroom as Regas Premium Auto’s dealer principal Simon Wang, Motorrad sales supervisor Ben Foo and marketing manager Jolene Tay explained and demonstrated the functions of the new BMW motorcycle model to members of the press yesterday.

Among some of the new features which BMW introduced for the bike was the Reverse Assist function.

Foo explained that in BMW’s continued pursuit to elevate the standards of bike riding, the new BMW K 1600 GT is equipped with the function which provides enhanced manoeuvring while reversing.

“Conveniently engageable at the press of a button on the left handlebar panel, the Reverse Assist instigates the blocking of the forward gear and consequently the activation of the reverse gear. Motion itself is resultant of propulsion via a bendable shaft which is triggered when the rider presses the starter motor button,” he added.

Apart from the Reverse Assist function, the motorcycle also has what is known as the Shift Assistant Pro for shifting gears with ease.

The function enables the rider to shift up and down without engaging the clutch or throttle valve in the relevant load and engine speed ranges.

As most shifting can be achieved using the shift assistant, the summative effect is not only enhanced comfort for the rider but an elevation in dynamic performance and with the Shift Assistant Pro, shift time is significantly reduced in comparison to a gearshift using the clutch.

Foo also explained that the throttle valve no longer has to be closed for shifts using the throttle grip during acceleration – translating to a smoother riding experience.

“As a result, propulsion power is essentially constant without torque interruption while engine speed is automatically adapted through double-declutching when decelerating and shifting down (throttle valve closed). While the Shift Assistant Pro can support the rider on virtually all shifts, there is no shift support when the clutch is activated, when shifting up with the throttle grip closed or when decelerating,” he said.

Other functions available for the BMW K 1600 GT include three riding modes and Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) for maximum safety during acceleration, electronic suspension adaptation Dynamic ESA with automatic damping adaptation and safety with Keyless Ride System and Hill Start Control.

The recommended retail price of the new BMW K 1600 GT (without on-the-road expenses and inclusive of GST) is RM161,692.
