Shopee encourages the birth of ‘mompreneur­s’ on regional platform

KUALA LUMPUR: An ecommerce platform is encouragin­g mothers to become entreprene­urs or ‘mompreneur­s’.

Shopee, a leading mobile platform in Southeast Asia and Taiwan, is doing so as a means of encouragin­g them to empower themselves by carving a niche in the business world.

In an interview with Bernama here recently, one successful “mompreneur”, Ye Mei Hong shared her story on how she evolved from being a housewife to Shopee’s 2017 Top Seller.

“I had wanted to undertake my own business for a long time, but did not have the platform to start off, so I tried selling my products on Facebook.

“Then in 2015, I came across Shopee.com. But I had doubts about the online platform, and did not take to it,” she said.

However, the 38-year-old, mother of three who resides in Kuala Lumpur decided one day to give it a try and has not looked back since.

She is now one of the leading women entreprene­urs in the country on Shopee Malaysia Sdn Bhd.

“I told myself, let me just try this once.Now, I have no qualms about pressing on, as my baby and children’s products, ranging from toys, fashion health and even diapers, are one of the best sellers on Shopee.

“What I like about Shopee is the fact that one does not have to pay for the shipping of products, which is cost saving and benefits both buyer and seller.

“I was determined to do well and have 18,000 followers and 16,000 ratings on my Shopee page,” she said. — Bernama
