Cherokee in ‘hokahey’ mode

- By Scoop

KUCHING: After three misses, Cherokee should come out with tomahawk drawn in a fourth bid for a maiden win in Race Three (Class 3 – 1000M) at the Mile 8 Penrissen course this morning.

The five-year-old finished fourth to Monolita and second to Suaji in his last two starts, and played bridesmaid again to Beraya last week.

With his three stablemates and vanquishers having gone up class, the W Stable’s racer looks nicely poised to make a breakthrough.

Amirzull Othman who rode the Tamizi Putit-trained brown pony to second place last week, will be in the saddle again.

Punters will have to take a chance on the rookie rider passing muster this time around.

The signs are promising – a strongly fancied mount, an apprentice claim and a good No. 2 barrier – all pointing to a bright chance for a rendezvous at the winner’s circle.

Geronimo (Othman Putit) can make up for his disappointing run last week.

The six-year-old was never in the hunt and finished a distant last. But don’t write him off yet.

With a drop of 7kg and a nonfactor No.5 marble, the ex-Class Two galloper can make good the prospect to redeem himself.

The other danger is Volcano (Roslan Bujang) who ran third last week but can step up that effort with an improved showing.

Nothing To Lose can parlay his easy win last week into a double in Race Five (Class 1 – 1000M).

The eight-year-old who rained on the parade of favoured stablemate Bukan Lawan Nya last week, is not beyond a repeat performance against a field, whittled down to seven runners by three course scratchings.

The extra 4kg should not trouble the Lebok Stable’s rangy galloper. On all counts, he looks strong enough to race like the wind again.

The unbeaten Monolita (Roslan Bujang) and Bukan Lawan Nya (Maruf Wahab) should provide the main challenge.
