3 SUPP Pujut branch officials purchase by-election forms

-

MIRI: Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Abang Openg will only announce the Barisan Nasional ( BN) candidate for the Pujut by- election after the Gawai holidays.

Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Pujut branch chairman Adam Yii Siew Sang said this yesterday after accompanying three members of the branch – Huang Huat Choon, Chai Chee Vui and Hii Chang Hoon to buy a set of nomination form each at Miri City Council office.

Huang, 65, is the publicity secretary of SUPP Pujut branch, Chai, 58, is the branch’s executive secretary and Hii, 55, the organising secretary.

After purchasing the forms they were briefed by the election commission officer on filling the form.

When asked whether any of the three could be the candidate for BN in the by- election, Yii replied that there is a possibility.

“We are the first to buy the nomination forms, and we did it on behalf of Barisan Nasional.

“We are still waiting for BN top leaders to finalise and the decision will be announced by our chief minister soon,” he said.

The Election Commission has fixed June 20 for nomination and July 4 for polling.

The by- election was called after the disqualification of DAP state assemblyman Dr. Ting Tiong Choon on May 12 by the State Legislative Assembly.

Meanwhile, DAP secretary Alan Ling, when contacted yesterday, said that they are now focusing on filing court case which will defer the by- election.

“We are taking one step at a time and not to rush everything. After filing the case, we will only decide whether to proceed with the case or with the byelection.

“If we succeed to defer and even restore Dr. Ting as member of the state legislative assembly ( DUN), then there is no need for a byelection.

“We will only buy the nomination form after June 5 if the by- election were to proceed,” he said in phone interview.
