MIRI: Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Pujut branch launched its election operations room on Monday, declaring itself ready to face the Pujut byelection.

Its chairman Adam Yii said winning the by- election will be tough and called for the support of all party members as well as Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties.

“SUPP Pujut branch alone has more than 5,000 members and the combined members from all five branches – Lambir, Piasau, Pujut, Senadin and Bekenu – total more than 16,000. This goes to show that SUPP is a big party and the comrades from all the branches will unite and work together to face this by-election,” Yii said.

“Pujut is and always has been traditionally a SUPP seat. We will go all out to win it back.”

He added that this by- election will differ from the last state election as many opposition strongmen are expected to set foot here.

“Nonetheless, we are confident that with the unity of all the members and the strength from component parties, we are aiming to win (the seat),” said Yii.

The launching of the operations room was witnessed by SUPP Senadin branch chairman Datuk Lee Kim Shin, SUPP secretarygeneral and Piasau branch chairman Datuk Sebastian Ting, Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Pujut branch chairman Abu Bakar Amit, political secretary to the chief minister Soo Li Ching, as well as representatives from Parti Rakyat Sarawak ( PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP).
