Subeng making his move for Saratok seat

-

KUCHING: Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) Krian branch objects to any candidate outside the party who is contesting in Saratok parliamentary constituency as a Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate in the next general election (GE14).

According to PDP Youth chief Jeffry Jimbun, Saratok is a traditional seat for the party in keeping with an understanding among BN components parties.

He also pointed out that PDP already has a competent person to stand and retain the seat for BN.

“We hope in the name of BN’s spirit, this decision will be accepted by BN top leaders,” he said.

Jeffry has been the chief coordinator of activities for one of the aspiring candidates, Saratokborn businessman Subeng Mula since last year.

Subeng, 53, hopes to replace incumbent MP Tan Sri William Mawan, who has expressed interest to defend the seat despite being partyless.

The latest activities for Subeng were two dialogue sessions at Rumah Oui Juan, Munggu Sirok, Awik and Rumah Intai, Mapar last Friday and Saturday, respectively.

More than 300 people including community leaders and residents of neighbouring longhouses were present at the session in Awik, where Subeng was formally introduced as a potential candidate to the audience.

The longhouse chieftain Oui Juan said he encouraged voters there to come and meet Subeng, whom he found to be a very approachable person.

programmes to help the people there should he receive the nod to be the BN candidate.

Jeffry, who also spoke at the session, explained to the people there why Subeng would be the most suitable person for the BN candidacy in Saratok.

He believed that Subeng, with his 32 years of experience in corporate administration and management, has the calibre to bring much needed people- centric development, especially in areas under Krian state constituency which is held by the opposition.

“It is time for the people in Krian (one of the three state constituencies under Saratok) to erase any negative perception towards BN, because I believe Subeng has the key to solve the problem,” he said.

Several other longhouse chieftains and PDP grassroots leaders also spoke during the dialogue, and they expressed confidence that Subeng could bring positive changes to Saratok.

A former councillor Mathew Jingan said there is no need for a BN direct candidate in Saratok because PDP already has a Saratok-born potential candidate who can represent BN.

Subeng, in his speech, said he was saddened to see areas in Saratok lacked basic infrastructure development.

“I call on the people of Saratok to move on to a new ideology which can ensure more efficient delivery of development. If I get the ticket as BN candidate, I would return to meet you and work together with you to bring more development to this area,” he said.

Subeng also handed over personal contributions to the village security and development committees (JKKKs) to for their Gawai celebrations.

The dialogue session at Rumah Intai, Mapar the next day was also well-attended, with the speakers positively welcoming Subeng’s intention to be the candidate for Saratok.

Subeng also presented Gawai contributions to the JKKK there. He then visited several nearby longhouses to personally hand over Gawai gifts.
