KAPIT: This district will be connected with other parts across the state in four years’ time.

According to Hulu Rajang MP Datuk Wilson Ugak Kumbong, the key developments set to benefit the folk here will be the construction of roads linking Kapit with Kanowit as well as Nanga Mujong with Putai, the Ulu Baleh road project, and also the solar energy panels for longhouses in the remote pockets across this division.

“In this regard, the people of Kapit must change their mindset because if they refuse to accept development, they would be left behind. I assure the people that the government will transform Kapit, with more big projects coming,” the parliamentarian said in his Gawai Dayak wish.

Ugak also took the opportunity to remind fellow Dayaks to always be alert and prioritise on safety on their way back to their hometowns and villages for the celebration.

“For those using longboats, be safe.CurrentlyKapitis experiencing heavy rainfall and the water level in Batang Rajang and Sungai Baleh. I am concerned about this as there are many longhouses along the tributaries of these two rivers. To the operators, you must make sure that every boat is equipped with safety equipment like life jackets, ropes and long poles. The safety of passengers must always be your priority.”

Ugak also advocated moderation in celebrating the occasion.

“Be prudent in your spending and most importantly, don’t drink and drive; be extra cautious on your way home. Too much alcohol is really bad for your health,” he said.
