Lau launches river bank retention wall project at Rh Saing
SIBU: It was a double joy occasion for the community of Rumah Saing in Bawang Assan when the folk celebrated a miring ceremony for the building of a river bank retention wall there and a preGawai festival last weekend.
InvitedtothecelebrationwasSibu BN committee chairman Robert Lau Hui Yew, who cut the ribbon to symbolise the commencement of the infrastructure project.
Lau, who is also SUPP Bawang Assan Branch chairman, said the project cost RM100,000.
He said he had asked for the grant from the rural development transformation ( RTP) fund.
“The project to protect the river bank erosion has started. The BN government is concerned for the villagers, as the erosion has affected them. Soil has been washed by waves created by passing boats.”
Speaking to the villagers at the function, Lau called on the residents to throw their support behind BN.
He noted that Sibu Parliamentary seat that includes the Bawang Assan villages had been traditionally allocated to SUPP.
Therefore, he said, he was expecting to represent SUPP in Sibu Parliamentary constituency in the next general election.
“It used to be the stronghold of BN. We must wrest it back from the DAP. Your support for BN will ensure the continuity of rural development in Bawang Assan.”
In the gathering, Lau said he had recommended Daniel Bujal of SUPP Bawang Assan Branch to be a political secretary to the chief minister replacing Andrew Shilling.
He said Daniel has been accepted because SUPP was a component party of BN.
At the gathering, the community chanted “Sa’ati” – the symbol of unity of SUPP – with Lau.
