Sarawak striker eyeing SEA Games action

KUCHING: Young Sarawak striker Nur Shamie Iszuan Amin remains confident of representi­ng Malaysia in the SEA Games despite not fully recovered from a left ankle injury sustained two months ago.

The 21-year old said he is almost recovered and is keen to return to action at the SEA Games in Kuala Lumpur from Aug 19-30.

“I have seen the experts at the National Sports Institute in Kuala Lumpur and they said the torn tissue on my left ankle will take at least two more weeks to heal completely,” said Shamie, adding that chief coach Datuk Ong Kim Swee had allowed him to return to Kuching to recuperate.

He is also aiming to represent Mal aysi a in the AFC Cup championsh­ip in Bangkok, Thailand from July 19- 23 if he can recover fully in the next few weeks.

“It’s my dream to represent Malaysia in the SEA Games and I am hoping that it would become a reality.

“It will be sweet for me as I do not want to miss this chance to contribute to my country,” he said.

On the AFC championsh­ip, Shamie said he is not harbouring too much hope as it will depend on how fast he can recover from the ankle injury.

Apart from Shamie, another Sarawak striker Tommy Mawat has been called up by the national U22 head coach for selection.

The national team will camp in China from June 6-13 where they will undergo their training and play several friendly matches with the national team and local clubs.
