Elected reps must engage with constituents at all times, not only during polls — MP

-

KOTA SAMARAHAN: All elected representatives are dutybound to assist their respective constituents in addressing whatever problem that they are facing at all times, not only during elections or the period immediately before them.

According to Kota Samarahan MP Rubiah Wang, she understands the trust and responsibilities entrusted to an elected representative.

“I don’t believe in going to the ground only when the election is around the corner. An elected representative should always be ready to perform his or her duties,” she told reporters at the distribution of ‘ Bubur Lambuk’ at Kampung Meranek here yesterday.

Rubiah said one of the ways for her to be close to the people was through the running of all kinds of programmes for them.

“Any programme that benefits the community will surely get the support from them. I’m constantly looking for new ways to help and understand better what the people of Kota Samarahan want.”

Asked by reporters if she was ready for the 14th general election (GE14), Rubiah responded: “I am always ready. For me, every day is the same – it is for me to perform my duties well as Kota Samarahan MP to the best that I can.

“The Kota Samarahan parliamentary area has been benefitting from the good development under the Barisan Nasional ( BN) government. I’m sure that with what BN has done for the people here, they know who can bring them more development in the future.”

Throughout the event yesterday, Rubiah and members of Sarawak United National Youths Organisation (Saberkas) Kampung Meranek branch distributed the porridge to passing motorists, as well as the villagers and and local community leaders.
