MIRI: A social media group has called on Miri City Council (MCC) and the police to take action against banner advertisements of illegal money lenders hung along roads here and the random distribution of their name cards.

A spokesperson for Anak anak Lutong Wassap said these illegal money lenders are targeting the lower income group and small scale business operators including petty traders who cannot apply for loans at government agencies and banks.

He claimed that the number of banners has been increasing in the last few months.

The spokesperson said MCC enforcement team should go around the city especially at Desa Senadin, Permyjaya, Tudan and Taman Tunku Miri to see these banners illegally put up at strategic locations.

He said small business owners are finding out the hard way that borrowing money from illegal money lenders is a ticket to disaster.
