BINTULU: Progressive Democratic Party president Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing and his party members visited several longhouses in his constituency to celebrate Gawai Dayak.

On Saturday, they visited Rumah Justin Agas Guang, Sungai Selabit, Labang.

Speaking at the occasion, Tiong urged the longhouse residents to be more tolerant with each other to avoid arguments and misunderstandings.

‘’ We sit together to listen to the voice of majority to solve any problem in our longhouses,’’ he said.

He said the best way to resolve any disagreement is through discussion and to listen to the voice of majority.

“I don’t want unresolved issues used as a weapon by certain parties against candidates from Barisan Nasional ( BN) in the upcoming general election,” said Tiong.

Tiong, who is Bintulu Member of Parliament, urged the people here to give their undivided support to him in the 14th General Election ( GE14) and promised to bring more development if he won.

Tiong then proceeded to Rumah Anthony Egok, Sungai Silas, Tatau.

In his speech there, he said the joy of Gawai Dayak is being shared and celebrated by all Sarawakians regardless of race or religion.

He said Malaysians who wanted to see more growth for the future generation must protect and preserve unity in order to live in peace and harmony.

Tiong thanked the longhouse residents for the strong support to Barisan Nasional during the last general election and hoped they would continue their support for BN in GE14.

During his visit to Rumah Banyang Dato, Sungai Setiam, Tiong said the BN government has proven to be the most effective government in bringing development for the people.

According to him, a bigger majority will show that the people are standing firm behind the BN government to lead them and bring even better services to the people especially in rural areas.

Meanwhile Tuai Rumah Banyang Dato pledged his support and cooperation to ensure Tiong will win handsomely in the coming election.

“We are ready to assist the BN election machinery to go to the ground and ensure BN will win in Jepak area.”

Other longhouses Tiong and his group visited were Rumah Belilie Lium, Rumah Sugai Lah, Sungai Lamaus, Ulu Niah, Rumah Baki Encham, Sungai Lamaus, Ulu Niah and Rumah William Nadeng Agat, Sungai Gerong, Sebauh.
