‘Proposal on centralised school needs to consider demography’
SADONG JAYA: The proposal for the centralisation of schools that have very low enrolment of students, especially those in the rural areas, should also consider the demography of those areas.
According to Sadong Jaya assemblyman Aidel Lariwoo, the proposal announced by the Education, Science and Technological Research Minister Datuk Seri Michael Manyin is meant to combine several schools with poor condition and very low number of students into one centralised school.
“I do feel that it is a good idea, but the demography of the areas
I do feel that it is a good idea, but the demography of the areas involved needs to allow for such proposal to materialise. Among the aspects needed to be considered are the location and also the feasibility for the students to travel to and from that (centralised) school later on.
involved needs to allow for such proposal to materialise. Among the aspects needed to be considered are the location and also the feasibility for the students to travel to and from that (centralised) school later on,” he responded when asked by reporters on the matter after the presentation of Ramadan aid for the local Muslims yesterday.
Aidel believed that at the moment, there is no need for a centralised school in his constituency as the number of children attending any school there is at a satisfactory level.
“From my standpoint, there is no need for a centralised school at the moment for Sadong Jaya.”
On the setup of the Education, Science and Technological Research Ministry, Aidel welcomed the move which he described as one that would ‘ further strengthen the education system’.
“I don’t see it as a step to overshadow the federal side; rather, it will further strengthen – if not improve – the level of education in the state.”
Minister in Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri gave away the Ramadan aid.
