Septuagenarian finally gets house repaired under PBR
MIRI: Seventy-two-year- old grandfather Lampan Idop from Kampung Lereng Bukit, or formerly known by Kampung Charcoal Plant, has a reason to smile now.
It is because his application for house-repairing under the House Assistance Programme ( PBR) via People Wellbeing Development Scheme ( SPKR) was finally approved this year.
“I’m really grateful as my family will not have to worry about the leaking roof when it is raining.
“The project also has been approved at the right time for us to celebrate the upcoming Hari Raya Aidilfitri with a new roof over our head,” he said to the media when met at his home on Monday.
Lampan, who has lived in the village for more than 50 years, is a welfare recipient under the eKasih programme.
Earlier, a team from United People Party ( UPP) Pujut branch led by its chairman Bruce Chai, together with representatives from Public Works Department (JKR) Miri and its contractor, went to Lampan’s house for project repairing assessment.
Chai, who is also organising secretary for UPP Central and former councillor for Miri City Council (MCC), said the UPP Pujut branch would go to the ground to monitor the implementation of four approved projects under a similar programme in Pujut constituency.
He said the other projects were in Kampung Piasau Utara and another two located at Kampung Pujut Tanjong Batu.
“I’ve been informed a total of 105 PBR projects have been approved for Miri where most of the projects are located in Senadin and Piasau constituency.
“I believe many people from Pujut should benefit from the programme,” he said.
He believed many reasons might have contributed to the lack of applicants from Pujut for the programme such as lack of publicity or follow-up effort on the applications. He said UPP Pujut branch always open its doors to those needy people to enjoy the benefits from the programme in order to live in a decent house.
In order to be eligible for the house assistance programme, applicants must be an e- Kasih registered recipient and the house is built on the applicant’s land. The project is funded by the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development.
Those eligible applicants from Pujut constituency can contact the UPP Pujut branch office at 085- 662555 for further information.
Also present were political secretary to the chief minister Suzanne Lee, who is also women chief for UPP Senadin branch, chairman of UPP Senadin councillor Keith Chin, secretary of UPP Senadin Branch Lawrence Kong and assistant engineer of PWD Miri Awangku Yuseri Awang Jubaidi.
