BINTULU: An unidentified man was found lying dead in a pool of blood on the floor of a budget hotel at Jalan Keppel here yesterday.

Bintulu police chief Supt Zailanni Amit said the victim was found with several injuries on the neck, chest and left arm.

The dead man, who had no identification document, was earlier found by an employee of a budget hotel who then went to Bintulu central police station to lodge a police report on the find around 7.40am.

In his report, the worker said while manning the reception counter, he saw someone rushing out from the hotel and, upon inspection, he discovered blood stains on the wall and the floor up to the front door of a room.

According to Zailanni, police recovered a weapon ( kerambit) next to the body of the victim and also found on the crime scene an Indonesian passport under the name of Sandi.

Further investigation found the room on the first floor had been registered under someone only known as Jol Akar and nobody had seen or heard any fight in the room.

The police are currently looking for the passport holder named Sandi to assist in the investigation.

The deceased was sent to Bintulu Hospital mortuary for a post-mortem.

Zailanni said the case is investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
