Students and parents can attend a free masterclass session at Pullman Hotel Kuching at 3pm this Sunday (July 2) and at Hilton Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on July 8 at 1pm.

The masterclass will cover all aspects of applications to universities such as Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London, Harvard, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Students will have the opportunity to receive free onetoone career counselling with a mentor to discuss options for career goals, and a strategy to achieve the goals already set.

Mentors will guide students through their personal statement, admissions test, and interviews for their application to a top university.

They will share tips on what makes a personal statement stand out, show examples of successful personal statements, and explain the need to start early as well as seek work experience as knowledge beyond the classroom.

Students will learn about the admissions tests they will have to sit for and have the opportunity to work through practice questions. There will also be session on interview technique. Mentors will visit specific schools to run challenges that will help students develop skills potential employers and universities are looking for: teamwork, creativity, problem- solving and critical thinking.

The programme is designed and run by Sarawakian Yasmin Sarwar – founder of the UK’s leading school for A-level results.

It combines work observation, cultural explorations and mentoring for students from Oxford International College with a full programme of outreach activities run by mentors to support students here with applications for universities around the world.

Oxford International College students will also volunteer at the Laila Taib Complex and share their English language skills.
