Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry offers feedback on new traffic flow system

-

SIBU: Sibu Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCCI) has put forward a number of suggestions pertaining to a new traffic flow system which is to be initiated by the Sibu Municipal Council (SMC).

Speaking at a press conference in SCCCI premises recently, its president Dr Gregory Hii said the chamber was invited by SMC to highlight issues regarding the redirecting of traffic flow at Jalan Kampung Nyabor and its surrounding areas.

Following that, he said SCCCI held a meeting and made several suggestions. Among them, he said, were proposals to retain the traffic lights at the Premier Hotel junction, Post Office junction and Telekom Keranji Road junction.

According to him, the accident rate would increase due to the redirecting of traffic flow from Lanang Road to Kampung Dato, especially related to the area in front of RH Hotel.

“In order to prevent the accidents, we suggested to set up an overhead bridge with escalator facilities over Jalan Kampung Nyabor.

“Currently, the road in front of the multi- storey carpark facing Rejang River ( Khoo Peng Loong Road) is closed on weekends and public holidays and we would like to propose to open that particular road to ease traffic congestion,” he said.

He added that the new traffic flow system is necessary as the existing traffic flow system implemented some 19 years ago has become outdated due to the increasing number of cars on the road, amongst others.
