‘Festive celebrations define S’wak’s uniqueness’

KUCHING: Festive seasons define Sarawak’s uniqueness and multicultural community as they are widely celebrated by the people regardless of race or religion.

Assistant Minister of Rural Electricity Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said festivals today are usually marked with open houses.

“When we talk about open houses in Sarawak, the door is really open wide as we welcome people from all walks of life so anyone can just walk in without having to identify who you are,” he said during his Hari Raya Aidilfitri open house yesterday.

Dr Abdul Rahman cited the overwhelming crowd at Chief Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg’s Aidilfitri open house.

“We can see the entire 32 ethnic tribes at the Chief Minister’s open house. And such colourful and joyous occasions also happen in all the minor and major celebrations we observe like the Chinese New Year, Hari Gawai and Deepavali,” he said.

“We celebrate all the festivals with so much joy and enthusiasm.”

The Pantai Damai assemblyman called for this unique tradition to continue to be observed.

“This is the culture we are inculcating and pass down to the younger and future generations. We hope that the vibrant colours of our unity will last for a very long time,” he added.
