More people will go for the EV as it uses electricity and buyers no longer need to worry about the unstable fuel prices. Datuk Seri Abang Khalid Abang Marzuki, Pekema Sarawak president

on Sunday.

So far in Pekema, only one or two companies in West Malaysia are importing EV and Sarawak will follow suit soon, he said.

Asked on the Geely- Proton partnership, he said that he didn’t want to comment as it was the government’s decision, but he believed ‘Geely is good’.

He added that currently people like Japanese cars where previously it was British cars.

“It’s like a trend, and it is possible for Chinese cars to become popular in the next 5-10 years.”

Speaking on the Approved Permit (AP), he said that it was still being maintained but the numbers were controlled by the government.

“When there are many APs, it becomes competitive, saturated, and with too many players and the prices will become too cheap. If the number of APs is controlled, the prices will be maintained.”

In Sarawak, there are 6,000 APs from a total of 30,000 in Malaysia.
