Meaningful ‘raya’ for little Sofea Qaisara, family

-

PUTRAJAYA: The first thing five-year- old Sofea Qaisara Syafiq Khuzairil did when she spotted Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak was extend her hands to be lifted by the prime minister on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri at the Seri Perdana here.

The gesture of the little girl who suffers from visual, physical and learning disabilities ( DandyWalkersyndrome)wasreciprocated by Najib with a warm smile.

The apparent warmth and camaraderie between Sofea Qaisara and the prime minister captured the attention from all other attendees and the girl was clearly beyond excited and happiness with the encounter.

Sofea Qaisara attended the open house with her mother, Ummikhalthom Ayub, 37, and sister, Sofea Qalisya, seven, following an invitation by Najib to attend the Aidilfitri Open House of the Prime Minister and Cabinet Ministers on Sunday.

Apart from celebrating the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri with the prime minister, this year ‘raya’ was very special and meaningful for the family of three when Najib allocated a new, more comfortable home for them.

June 22, – less than a week before Hari Raya Aidilfitri – is a day that Ummikhalthom, an operating assistant will always remember as Najib allocated a new and comfortable home for her and her two daughters.

That unforgettable day saw the trio moving into a fully-furnished unit at the Putra Damai Apartment in Precinct 11 here.

Having been informed by Social Welfare Department ( SWD) officials to go to their new home, the family had a surprise of their life when entering the unit, only to be greeted and welcomed by none other than the prime minister himself!

Najib was touched by the family’s plight when he met Sofea Qaisara during his meeting with the little girl while presenting ‘ raya’ contributions to people with disabilities at the Ramadan Bazaar here on June 8 and decided to allocate a new and comfortable home for the family.

He had also called on the SWD to continue providing RM300 a month to the family and a year’s supply of diapers for Sofea Qaisara. — Bernama
