S’wak Arts Council to hold traditional dance course from July-November
MIRI: Sarawak Arts Council (SAC) of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports will be organising the Sarawak Traditional Dance basic course here from July to November this year.
The course is open to all Mirians and application for participation is now open.
Members of the public who are interested in joining the course should not be less than 10 years old but those under the age of 18, must obtain permission from their parents or guardians.
The purpose of the course is to inculcate and enhance the involvement of the community in various arts and cultural activities, especially traditional dances.
“Conservation and preservation in maintaining Sarawak’s cultural heritage is an action that should be exemplary and championed for generations to come.
“It is hoped that the updated modules ( Bidayuh, Melanau, Orang Ulu, Iban and Malay dance basics) can help to improve performance in teaching and training participants as well as inculcate an interest among youths and the public to deeply understand traditional culture and dance,” said SAC in a press statement yesterday.
Certificates will be given to participants who successfully complete the course.
“Certificates will be given if the participants comply with the instructions; conditions set and pass the theory and practical tests at the end of their course of study.
