Sibu 4X4 Owners Club raising funds for SCCS tomorrow

-

SIBU: Sibu 4X4 Owners Club and Sarawak Children’s Cancer Society (SCCS) will stage a fundraising event at a parking lot nearby Delta Swimming Pool here on July 8.

SCCS liaison officer Pau Kiew Chuang said the event from 6pm to 9pm is a prelude to its annual Go Bald event on July 16 at Delta Mall.

He said many people had wanted to contribute, but might not be able to do it on July 16.

“That’s why we’re having this earlier event to enable more people to chip in,” he explained.

Pau told a press conference yesterday that anyone may give their contributions at the July 8 event.

“We’ll have an array of big-bikes at the scene and those wishing to take a picture with these big-bikes are welcome to do so.”

“While this year marks the ninth year of the Go- Bald event, it is the fourth one in Sibu.

“The objective of Go Bald is to encourage the public to demonstrate moral support for children with cancer and their families by shaving their heads.

“By doing so, participants show a strong message of solidarity, that hair loss is only a temporary setback on the road to recovery,” he explained.

Pau said at the same time, participants would also raise funds for SCCS through pledges from their families, friends and well-wishers.

He said participants could collect Go Bald pledge cards at the reception counter of Tanahmas Hotel here.

This year, SCCS is targeting to raise RM1 million from a total of 1,500 heads shaved in Kuching, Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.

Club chairman Kiing Sie Puo and vice- chairman Ngu Kieh Hoh were with Pau at the press conference.
